Rosie Watton – Competition Winner
We would like to introduce Rosie Watton, who is the winner of the Christmas Nail Art Competition 2016 with the following design:
As part of the prize, Rosie receives a dedicated blog post so we can all get to know her better and learn some insights into her business
Why did you decide to be a nail technician?
'When I was 21, I was diagnosed with Vestibular Neuritis which meant I could no longer follow my original career path. I'd always loved having my nails done and as I needed a job where I could be sat down (but still be creative) so becoming a nail technician was the perfect answer!'
Why did you decide to take on and continue to use Bio Sculpture Gel?
'I'd had Bio Sculpture Gel on my own nails so I knew it was a fantastic product. I was advised to take the course and haven't looked back since! I didn't want to work with a product which I knew would cause any damage to my client's nails so Bio Sculpture Gel was definitely the best choice.'
What type of Bio Sculpture technician are you? Home/Mobile/Salon/Technician in a salon?
'I run my business from home. It's great as it's such a relaxed atmosphere and I can be much more flexible with less time restraints.'
If you could give any advice to yourself when you first started in nails, what would you advise?
'Definitely to keep at it and not worry so much as every business takes time. Thinking positively is imperative and it's important to remember that hard work pays off but that's not always clear at the start'
How did you build up your client base when you first started?
'Social media is a massive help and it's a brilliant way to show off what you can do. I think it's difficult for any small business to build a client base when they first set up, but I'm really proud that most of my clients have come from word of mouth and recommendation'
Who would your dream celebrity manicure be?
'I'm a big Fearne Cotton fan and I imagine she would have something quite cool and quirky! Otherwise, Eddie Izzard would be fun!'
Have you tried any Evo Gel?
'I have used the mood changing colours and I think they are brilliant'
How do you take photos of your nails and do you have any tips to recommend?
'I think the most important thing to consider when taking photos of nails is the lighting. I take all my photos with my iPhone and I have an LED lamp above my nail bar. Sometimes photos don't always do the colours justice so I try and make sure they are as clear as possible'
What are your clients' top five most popular colours?
Such a tough question! I'd say the five colours I always restock are: Classic Jacquard No.184, Rosewood Stardust No.213, Love Potion No.113, Pursuit of Beauty No.182 & Elizabeth No.157
